Did You Know?
Milk & Honey, serves breakfast until 2 pm, Tuesday through Sunday, along with other delicious food. They are a farm to table restaurant established in June 2015, inside the Old Hotel Saylor in downtown Harlan. Their summer menu is now available and can be delivered to your place of business by calling 712-579-1933.
St. Mary Our Lady Fatima Parish Picnic, Portsmouth, Saturday, July 29 and Sunday, July 30. Stands open after 4 pm Mass on Saturday, July 29. Also on Saturday, 1 pm – Pitch Tournament, 2:30 pm – Sand Volleyball Tournament; 5 pm – Bean Bag Toss Tournament; 8 pm – Midnight – Free Dance. On Sunday, July 30, stands open at 4 pm, inflatables and midway open at 4:30 pm; 1 pm IWL Championship Game (ball diamond)’ 4 – 7 pm – Broasted Chicken Dinner by Staley’s Catering; 6:30 pm – Miscellaneous auction; during the auction: raffle and quilt drawings. Both nights: 6:30 pm – Dauber Bingo; 6 – 9 pm Roli Poli the Clown.

Sunday, August 6, Iowa Community Kitchen’s Fun at the Park, 12 – 5 pm, Pioneer Park, Harlan. DJ, games, face painting, clown, and much more. Rib Eye sandwich plate $7.50; ¼ lb. Hamburger Plate $5 and; ¼ lb. Hot Dog Plate $5. Includes baked beans, potato, salad and drink. Proceeds to help fight hunger.
Saturday, August 12 – Shelby Fun Days. Concessions start at 9 am by the Shelby Fire and Rescue.
Saturday, August 19 – Tour De Shelby County Motorcycle & Vehicle Scavenger Hunt. Registration begins at 9 am, kick stands up at 10:30 am. The “tour” starts and ends at the Shelby County Chamber of Commerce & Industry, 1901 Hawkeye Avenue, Harlan. $20 per bike; $25 for 2-up and vehicles.
Sunday, September 3 – 4th Annual “Break the Silence” for Nadine Golf Tournament. Shelby County Golf Course, 1243 St. F32, Harlan. 9-hole, 4 person Best Ball, 1 pm. Call Tony Kenkel 712-579-1741 to register your team ($50 per person, includes meal) and reserve a cart ($10). Public invited to 5 pm meal for $10. This is a 2 hour evening painting and if you wish to sip adult liquid inspiration, you will BYOB for this event. The first five reservations will get a $10 discount.
